Dear All!
Here is some good news from Germany: I gained access to a private collection of GDR memorabilia and other miscellania related to the fall of the wall. I will send a box containing a big sign post "GRENZE", a stack of newspapers from 1990, a wooden KONSUM emblem, advertisements, and some other interesting items we may use for the exhibition. I did find people for interviews and also found quite unique material relating to farming ( from LPG-Kollektivierung to privatisation and the founding of "Genossenschaften" after 1990 - letters, even a poem written by a farmer, pictures, interviews and videos - this could very well become a topic in our exhibition. Also, the history of the "Konsum" company may figure prominently in our exhibition - from the beginning in 1884 as a regional supplier for Leipzig's industrialized West to being a central institution in the GDR. KONSUM was re-founded in 1990 and gained regional importance over the last years. We could trace the continuities/discontinuities in the history of this company, its different modes of existence in different economical systems and thus illucidate the WENDE very well, from an economical point of view. Also, I've got some exhibits dealing with the notion of "Victory" and "Victors" which we might want to think about in the course of the comming weeks.
These are some of my first ideas that suggest themselves, at the moment. Please let me know what you think, and/or post alternatives ideas!
Pictures will follow. Hope you all are doing well. and !!!PLEASE send me your email adresses so that we can start interacting!!!
